This statement was shared to people from AUG and other people from Los Angeles when they traveled to the 1996 Intercontinental Encuentro in Chiapas, Mexico.
We first began by commemorating the "Farce of July" which was an instrument to give voice to the reality of manifest destiny. The reality of the arrogance of declaring independence on stolen land while enslaving African people, bringing to light the effects of modern colonialism. Using art as a weapon to bring to light the experience of the oppressed to empower, we are indebted to all the artists throughout the years who have donated their time for these efforts.
In the spirit of resistance please no drugs, weapons, alcohol, and absolutely no fireworks!
*We are also asking people to bring canned food for the UFW food drive to help out campesinos & their families who were deeply affected by this year's freeze. Those who do will be admitted @a discount price.
