Rudy and Jackie Cordova had always wanted a business of their own. After going near and far to visit folk art stores, they knew it was their turn to step up and do their part to support artists and continue traditions. In 2005, Calacas was born as a space showcasing art based on el Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), Frida Kahlo, the Virgen of Guadalupe and other folk art.
Calacas’ goal is to bring together the artesania and cultura of our heritage while keeping traditions alive. We promote our culture through products made by the hands of the indigenous people of Mexico, as well as products from local artists and business people of Southern California. From Los Angeles: 5 fwy South, exit Broadway, continue south on Broadway, right on 4th Street. Parking structure is on the 4th Street and Birch Street.
From San Diego: 5 north, exit 1st and 4th streets, stay to left to exit 1st street, make a right (west) on 1st street, cross Main Street, make a right on Broadway and a Left on 4th street. Parking structure is directly behind the 4th Street and Birch Street
From Long Beach: 22 fwy East, 5 South, exit Broadway, continue south on Broadway, right on 4th Street. Parking structure is on 4th Street and Birch Street
From Newport Beach: 55 fwy North, 5 North, exit 1st and 4th streets, stay to left to exit 1st street, make a right (west) on 1st street, cross Main Street, make a right on Broadway and a Left on 4th street. Parking structure is on 4th Street and Birch Street
